此戰兩隊都排出王牌投手先發，印地安人隊是Corey Kluber、小熊隊是Jon Lester。Kluber前3局飆出8次三振，超越Bob Gibson、Orlando Hernandez以及Randy Johnson共同保持前3局7次三振的世界大賽紀錄。而Kluber目前投完6局，被擊出3支安打沒失分，三振9次、沒保送。
小熊隊Jon Lester表現就沒有Kluber出色，印地安人隊1局下兩出局之後，Francisco Lindor擊出安打，接著成功盜上二壘，Lester連續保送Mike Napoli、Carlos Santana，滿壘，Jose Ramirez打出內野安打，打回第1分，Brandon Guyer又被觸身球保送，攻得第2分。印地安人隊4局下Roberto Perez轟出陽春彈。
